Internal battery needs to be charged before use. Came with DOA battery. The battery was never charged, the timer display did not work. Update: The company quickly replaced it. New installed and programmed. switched off 5 hours earlier. I checked the program and the clock. Both were timed correctly. I used it for a reptile enclosure. Luckily I installed it over the weekend when I could keep an eye on its safety so I was there to turn its lights back on. I will no longer trust this brand. The seller replaced the defective one. The replacement turns on but sparkles horribly when something is plugged in. I replaced it with another brand.
