I'm really surprised how well this works. Let me explain: I live in the desert, where summers average 106 degrees Fahrenheit (well, at least for this first month so far. It'll get worse by August). I ride my bike during the lunch break because the lines are outside during the cooler part of the day. It's too hot even for them at noon, if you can believe it. Well, the combination of extremely direct sun (at 700m, btw) and dry air makes for a potentially dangerous training environment, but I've always argued that with the right gear, that shouldn't be a problem. Thought I might have met my mate when I first got into trouble out there in the heat. Though it seemed less heat than direct, inevitable sun. Even with a white helmet (with vents) I just need to keep the sun off my head. I wanted everything umbrella, soft hat. some. I even drank 2 bottles of ice cold fuel. Not good. The next day, I tried dousing myself with ice water every now and then while driving, but when the humidity barely reaches 10%, it's not that effective. Husband suggested a balaclava. Ba! How can it help? I was already wearing a rolled up sweat bandana. Isn't that all a balaclava is good for? Since I couldn't find any other solution, I gave up. In any case, what can stop you from trying. Especially since bandanas were a giant PITA? I bought white because I figured any extra reflection would help. HOLY DOG! I really needed to check the temperature during my trip. supposedly it was 102 but i was sure it should only be 92. i never got it Oh. Perhaps I overestimated my ability to cover the distance in this hot moment. No, it was 102. Tried on the second day. same result. In fact, I wasn't drinking as much water as I normally would. I'm still amazed at this result. I mean, it's not like my head isn't nearly covered by my helmet. So I immediately bought two more. at this price you can't beat it. Additional comments: My hair is tied back in a ponytail that I tuck into the hole between the helmet and the headband/cord and it didn't stop it from being easy to be invisible, but nasty sweat is better than mine Headscarf. Just great. I highly recommend.
