Bigger is better
Bigger is much more useful than smaller. I sort music books and they don't fit into smaller magazine holders of about 1/4 inch. The books fit perfectly in the large ones. Note. These aren't the most durable magazine holders, but they're good for sorting and placing several next to each other on a shelf. After trying both sizes, I ordered more.
