does what i need!

I have a 2007 Infiniti FX35. I don't put high mileage on it, so it doesn't quite have 29,000 miles on it. However, for about a year now we have had to put up with a musty smell when the heating or air conditioning is turned on. I suspected it was caused by a fungus on a 6 year old cabin air filter that was supposed to be changed every 15,000 miles. . .which I didn't do because most automakers want you to replace parts well before they are needed. But in this case I probably should have replaced it at 22/23k miles because that's when the smell started. Anyway I replaced it this morning (myself) and then took the car for a test drive where I tried both the heating and air conditioning. Heating-air conditioning works great and no more smell! A word of caution. If you are not mechanically inclined, I advise against doing the replacement yourself. The instructions provided with the filter are general and do not provide detailed information on how to remove and replace the filter. And the instructions don't say anything about what the two foam strips that come with the kit are for (and which I didn't use, they weren't on the old filter so I assumed they were for a different installation ). I found the instructions on the FX Owners website and even then I had trouble taking things apart. On the FX you have to remove the right front door sill, the side panel between the floor and the glove box, the flat panel under the glove box and the glove box itself to get to the block where the filter is located. Excessive force was required to remove the side panel due to the two metal clips on the rear panel fitting into the metal slots and after 6 years appearing to have been welded to the body. It took me a while to figure out that I had to use a pry (a long screwdriver) to pry them out. When I put things back together, I put SILICONE GREASE on those #@$* metal clips so they're easier to remove next time!
