Review on SATA TOOL BOX 16 ST95115SC by James Mayberry

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made, decent materials, inner pockets

Had to wait a bit for this one to arrive but it was worth it. Sata makes some good tools (and some great tools), and they're somewhat related to Gearwrench, so you know it's not just another rebranded Chinese "brand" selling the same thing as hundreds of others. This bag is really great, especially at this price. I have a 16" bag for a Milwaukee 5-3/8" circular saw and a jigsaw that has plenty of room for it as well as room for a set of clamps. and additional items, as well as items in internal pockets that will not be crushed under stress. Loose dimensions are pretty accurate at 16 x 10 x 11, but seam to seam at bottom is 15" and only 10" high if you don't include zipper tape/tape. The diagonal is about 17-1/2 inches. However, this is a custom measurement and you can easily fit items slightly larger than these measurements. 8 outer pockets - 3 on each side and 2 on one end only. The 6 side pockets are lightly padded which was a nice surprise and I don't think I've seen another bag like this. Pockets are flat and measure 6-1/2" x 4-1/2". 6 inner pockets, side only, same size. Very thin stiffness panel and also very thin padding underneath Pretty standard stuff, good enough. The top has a wire bezel which is great. Too many bags miss these these days. The webbing/stitching only looks adequate, not outstanding. I rarely lock my pockets, so this issue doesn't bother me too much. The handles are just folded webbing, no padding or stiffeners, and with a really full bag they can stand up. d a little longer than they are, but with normal content they are fine. The fabric material was a little disappointing for me. They are alright. not meaty but just ok. Although most of the seams and stitch lines look well done and neatly finished and there are neat tacks in appropriate places as well as stitching at handle attachment points, the thread is fairly cheap and I expect to need it. make minor repairs in the future. Body tissue should be fine. It doesn't feel as strong or thick as 1000d Cordura. Feels closer to the thinner 500d Cordura, but not bad. Tissue is thinner and I don't expect it to be able to handle sharp file edges, rasps, rough hardware or anything else. Separate taffeta lining on the upper inside, which I'm not thrilled about, but hopefully lasts a long time. None of the fabrics have a waterproof coating, but of course you don't see the back. Not sure. Disappointed with cheaper standard polyester webbing for handles, shoulder strap and zipper tape. It's a run-of-the-mill fabric, fairly strong and soft to the touch, but not very abrasion resistant and has particularly poor UV resistance over several years. The best nylon webbing will cost just a few cents more and be worth it (e.g. a typical mainstream brand backpack webbing or various types of mil-spec webbing). There are worse slings out there but based on several other products over the years I would expect these slings to fail in a few years if the body tissues and everything should be fine. The shoulder strap is hooked. I'm not sure I would trust them with a heavier load, but I still never use belts. D-rings for a harness are good if the harness can withstand the stress and friction. If you use a strap for heavy content, you may need a better pad. This bag isn't bad - it's actually very good - and definitely better than most cheap bags I've seen and/or owned, but it's not as good. like some of the best bags of the moment like DeWalt, CLC, Makita, Ergodyne and what's left of the 'good' McGuire Nicholas or Milwaukee bags where you can find them. But you know, for $20, there are cuts in a few places and it's not junk by any means. It's a little frustrating that import trends/brands tend to copy each other, especially when bean counters start cutting small but valuable things that end up compromising both the quality and functionality of the product. This has happened to tool bags in recent years. But this sata case is a great balance of good quality at a good price and I know for sure that you can spend more for a lot less quality. (Note: The McGuire Nicholas Gray and Black 16" Bags, while still available, are really excellent and cost a few bucks more. However, they don't have any inside pockets at all, regardless of what the product description says. You should take a look throw it. as they are the real deal and will eventually go away.) Overall this is a good buy and maybe deserving of five stars given the price. I really like the green motif and the more muted colors of this bag. Fits more things in here than you think and it's a good size without carrying longer pockets or carrying shorter pockets that are also smaller in width/height. This is the goalkeeper.
