A powerful device that requires some technical skills

share my preferences and preferences to hopefully let you know my decision and save you time. 4k HDR - 1080p Projector - Stereo speakers that require an optical input. My goal is to stream Xbox video to a TV (at 4k) or projector (at 1080p) and Xbox audio to speakers. Mission accomplished! Not exactly plug-and-play, but there's a catch: Downscaling to 1080p: It was pretty easy. According to the graphic below in the matrix, set the second microswitch to the "On" position. and make sure your 1080p device is connected to the HDMI-A output - getting stereo sound: that was the problem. The Matrix was constantly sending a surround sound signal to my speakers that my speakers couldn't handle. The good news is you can get the matrix to output stereo sound, the bad news is it takes more work. Step 1: Get a Windows PC (out of luck if you have a Mac or a Chromebook). Step 2: Connect the Matrix to your Windows PC using a mini USB cable (I hope you have one). Step 3, hope the device is recognized. Mine didn't, so I had to manually install the driver I found by searching FTDI Chip Driver. Step 4, follow the instructions in the guide to send EDID codes to the device (I had 13 for 4k@60 with 2ch stereo). Voila, it works great now - HDR control: I had a problem with that too. HDR worked great on my 4k HDR TV. But when the HDR signal was downscaled for my 1080 projector, the picture quality didn't look good. Very washed out and dull look. I don't think the sensor itself is to blame, I think it's probably very difficult to capture all the goodness of an HDR signal and compress it into a non-HDR signal. Anyway after trying a few cables etc I finally gave up and just disabled HDR on my Xbox when outputting to a 1080 projector. A bit annoying because I have to manually enable HDR in Xbox when I output to a TV. That's all. Overall I am very happy with this device as I understand asking it to manage my somewhat odd installation. But that's the strength of the device. Because you can set EDID codes manually, you are able to handle almost any setup. One final note - bonus points for the Matrix because it 1) works perfectly with my Logitech Harmony Hub setup and 2) works perfectly with my 50ft HDMI fiber optic cable connected to the projector.
