Sony clock radio ICF-C492 AM-FM

I bought two of these and the large display and adjustable backlight intensity drew me to this model. I installed a 9v battery as a backup and set the clock. Both work great. If I set the display low enough not to disturb me at night, it's still easy to read at night due to the large numbers, but it's too dim to see well in daylight. This isn't important to me, but might be a consideration if you need to see your bedside clock day and night and want it to be dark at night. I leave mine at about 1/3 of the full intensity setting - it's a dial so I'm just guessing. The display can be set very bright or very dark and anywhere in between. You'd think someone would put a light-sensitive automatic dimmer in an alarm clock - in general, the state of clock radio technology (with the exception of a few iPod add-ons) seems stuck somewhere in the '70s. The thin wire antenna for the radio was easily hidden behind the bedside table and my cats couldn't see or reach it there.

Pros
  • 9V backup battery; Dimensions 7.88 x 4 x 4.38 inches (W x H x D); 1 Year Warranty
Cons
  • Contact Seller
