Review on πŸ”Œ Anker Ultra Slim USB 3.0 Data Hub for Macbook, Mac Pro/mini, iMac, Surface Pro, XPS, Notebook PC, USB Flash Drives, Mobile HDD, and More by Tim Morrison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

If you do not order the powered model, you will receive the non-powered hub model. There are actually two models that look the same.

I like this hub and I like Anker products. However, I have to deduct 1 star for model differences which (as far as I can see) are not listed or obvious in their pictures. The hub model that comes with the power supply is double the price - the model with the power supply and is NOT the same as the powered model. Non-powered adapter models do NOT have an additional power port that you can use to power the hub (to run devices like USB hard drives, scanners, etc.). Again, this omission is not visible in the photos and I have not seen it written anywhere. It's a shame because it's a great hub and the company seems to make quality items, they just don't mention that the item comes without the ability to add strength; Note that powering your hub is not required for many USB devices. Don't get me wrong, the hub works great without a power adapter, 90% of the USB devices I use don't need a power adapter. However, some items require energy, and one of their models cannot add additional energy if needed. It's also a shame because Anker also did another AMAZING thing about the powered model. Instead of using a barrel-shaped connector to power its hub (which could eventually be lost), Anker used a MICRO-USB connector to add extra power to its hub. This means that if you lose your power cord, any Samsung/Android phone charger you have will power this hub. This is a STAR idea, and I wish more manufacturers would ditch semi-proprietary power connectors and stick with standard USB cables to power low-voltage devices like this USB hub.

Pros

Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
