I thought it was white but it was actually a light colored untreated wood. It actually worked because I was able to colorize it a color that better suited my space anyway. It's made out of real wood and appears to be holding up, although the steps may need some reinforcement for a heavier cat. Also, I thought it had a rug like other cat products usually have, but it's just VERY thin felt. Overall it will serve its purpose and give me room to get creative and adapt it to my space.
