***Waxing requires experience and good technique, otherwise you may injure someone. It's not for everyone. If in doubt, consult a professional and do nothing that can harm your body! Inattention can lead to burns, bruises, skin tears and ingrown hairs, among other things. *** Are you still thinking about it? Watch videos of professional waxing techniques (no Hollywood pics, everything I've seen was fake). Gigi's site has some almost hairless models, but they teach good technique. If you still want to continue, please buy the right things. In addition to the wax, you'll need a Gigi-Pot set to Off/Low/Med/High. Make sure you have enough applicator sticks and removal strips. Have cornstarch powder and baby oil on hand. The hair should be about 1/4-1/2 inch long. Longer hair can cause pull problems, so cut them off! The wax needs to be preheated on high heat for at least 30 minutes to an hour before you begin. Cover anything you don't want to spill the wax on (I put newspapers on the bottom and under the pot) as it can be difficult to clean. Before waxing, dust the area of your body where you want to wax with powder. Test the wax on your wrist before applying! It should be thin (somewhere between color and honey) but stick to the applicator and apply easily and thinly (I think it's paper thin. The thinner the better). Apply to small areas in the direction of hair growth and immediately apply a removal strip while rubbing vigorously in the direction of hair growth. Grab the bottom of the strip and quickly pull in the opposite direction of growth and use. Most of the hair should be gone. If the wax is too cold, too thick, or left on the skin for too long, it won't work. If it hurts, try a smaller section next time (but be honest: you're pulling your hair out by the root, it's going to be uncomfortable). A small amount of wax may remain on the skin. When you're done with that body part, take a clean strip, wipe away the residue with it, and quickly remove it. Most will come off and the rest can be rubbed in with baby oil. After you're done and cleaned, remember that your skin may be sensitive for a while, so stay out of the sun. Your pores may be open for a while, so take appropriate precautions. Remember to exfoliate the area regularly (to avoid ingrown hairs) and moisturize daily!
