As I have three children I have changed several cloths over the last 14 years. They were either too difficult to clean, slipped everywhere, fell apart too easily, or got terribly dirty. So far these light gray placemats have been amazing. They rub through (tested with red, fatty taco meat on day one), stay in place, and look nice. We have a table that has been passed down from generation to generation so I take great care to protect it and they fit the bill. The only thing I don't like is that when the light hits them a certain way I can see where there might be some grease or sticky fingers. Maybe I didn't dry well enough (even after cleaning), but that's a small problem. . I wouldn't use them as trivets to put very hot things on either, but plates of hot food did fine on them. I would definitely buy them again.
