Review on πŸ“± ZAGG Folio Case with Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard for iPad Air - Sleek & Stylish Black by Freddie Newton

Excellent at first, degrades over time

When I first received my ZAGG Folio in March 2014, I was thrilled. I bought one because a friend had one, so I had to test it out a bit before buying. I travel extensively for work and was looking for something that would help me turn my iPad into something more useful, especially when I'm on a plane and a laptop is just...well, impossible. Here's what I like about this case: 1) It's thin - this is one of the few keyboard cases I've found that doesn't add weight to the iPad. I also need to take a laptop with me, so I really didn't want to carry a second laptop-sized thing in my bag. With the case, it's so small and light that I can easily slip it into a small purse without feeling like I'm carrying a brick. 2) Good Protection - This case covers the front and back of the iPad. , which is important to me because I abuse my iPad a bit: throwing it like that, putting it in my bag, etc. 3) The keyboard is GREAT and very responsive. I had no problems with lag at all. The keyboard immediately made my iPad more valuable and easier to use. 4) I really liked that the mount allows you to place the iPad at any angle, like a laptop, and that I'm not tied to two or three different options. This enabled me to adapt to different lighting conditions or work situations. I was in awe of him, probably the first 3 months. In those first three months I only had a few major issues: 1) I wish there was an easy way to use the iPad with this case in portrait mode. There are some apps that only work in portrait mode, and you basically have a choice of taking the iPad out of the case (not too heavy, but a little annoying) or turning the whole thing on its side (but now the keyboard is kind of turned off and you get a few sheepish looks). Over time I've just stopped using applications that require portrait orientation, but this isn't an ideal solution. 2) The function of the bottom pop-up menu in iOS 7 (turn on/off wifi, flight mode, change brightness, etc.) is very difficult, but it is possible to get a case. You have to be very precise - I have to use my pinky and a very light touch, and it usually takes a few tries. 3) I didn't quite understand the function of the battery indicator. One day I have 3 green flashes, the next day the keyboard is completely dead. Usually one charge lasts me about a month and a half with regular use. My friend, on the other hand, turns off the keyboard every time he closes his iPad and rarely charges it. It's just uncomfortable for me, so I don't stick with the same practice. Sometime around the 3 month mark the right hinge broke. The case is still valid, but now I have two additional problems: --- Item 4 from my "Like" list is gone. If I open the case while trying to adjust the angle, the top of the case doesn't stay put, but instead has significant flexing in both directions, and of course I then get stuck in the rearmost position. When the hinge first broke the case had about 1 inch of freedom of movement, but now I have about 3 inches --- Since the hinge broke the case won't stay closed. It increases the risk of something. get caught between the edges and the screen and scratch the surface. But even worse, the iPad screen turns on automatically every time you open the case. So when my case is "closed" and oscillates between open and closed, the iPad turns on and I lose battery power. --- I lost the two rubber edges on the side of the keyboard that serve as an extra screen protector. Now that I've owned the suitcase for almost 5 months, it's about the end of its life. I expect most iPad cases to last at least a year if not two, so that's not the case for me. I'm a bit sad for all the colleagues and friends that I advised to buy this case in the first 3 months of my ownership, because it really isn't as good as it looks out of the box. If I didn't like the keyboard and thin body that much, I would give it two stars. It's a decent case, but be aware of what you're getting into!
