There is no air conditioning in my house. As a result, we use fans throughout the summer. Otherwise, the heat is depressing. My big fan died so I bought this one. First, it was much smaller than expected. And this, as they say, is just as effective. And quiet. So beautiful and calm. My last fan rumbled and hummed like there was a constant earthquake underneath. The downside was that I had to get used to the fan noise a bit. It sounds EXACTLY like my computer fan when my computer is overheating. I would panic because my computer must be broken. no Just a fan. But I bought two more so clearly it wasn't a big issue.
