I almost overlooked this case because I usually sort by rating. Most dissatisfied reviewers simply bought a case that didn't suit their preferences. When you need fall protection, you need either a heavyweight shell or multiple lighter absorbent layers. Some of the heavier cases offer excellent protection. but they are MUCH heavier. Many reviewers dislike the soft rubber layer on this case. Unfortunately, I often drop my iPad mini and have found that the rubber layer is essential to absorb shock. If you don't like the shift, either get a heavier case or plan to take better care of your iPad. If you plan to take better care of your iPad and need a case for aesthetic reasons, most cases on the market will do for you. If you want to protect your bezel from cracks and scratches, buy the $7 tempered glass case. They work great. Many reviewers don't like the case that comes with this case. In general, don't plan on using the included iPad case (usually it's either too thin or too thick). Also, the flip covers are particularly useless on many cases. Some of you may remember "keyboard dust covers" for early laptops. The flip-top covers on many cases are almost as useless and get in the way of reading. If you want solid impact protection without adding too much extra weight and are willing to buy a tempered glass cover to protect against scratches and cracks, then this case is perfect.
