Background: Middle aged man who sleeps on his side and has neck and back problems. looking for some relief and a more or less fulfilling sleep. Of all the useless foam pillows I've seen in my life, this one is spot on. Pretty typical sheet of styrofoam until they started punching holes and cutting gaps in it so that changes, right? Then they take it to the next level and stick a separate layer on one side that supposedly provides a firmer feel? Then they pack everything in a suitcase that can be described as "soft as a baby". This is some serious pillow hacking. Let me break it down. First, there is nothing "intended" about this stiffening layer. It's definitely important. Slim, but only in the sense that you don't really need a lot of hardness as long as the height is right for you. At 6ft 2in it fits perfectly between my shoulder and head (could be a bit thicker IMO) and the firmness is very helpful thanks to those ridiculous holes drilled in the center of the pillow. Believe me. Or not, but it really gives just enough to feel my head dig into it, yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuating that the slits on the edges seem to work too as they seem to give the edges a bit more flexibility - and again I understand and appreciate that . It really seems like a lot of thought went into the creation of this little pillow wonder. Long story short, I've tried MANY pillows over the past few months and this is one of only TWO pillows that have significantly reduced neck pain and actually provided a noticeably better night's sleep. nothing has changed except that I don't scroll through the night like I used to, which I attribute to both this and the adjustable crushed memory foam pillow, which I alternate two of depending on how my neck is in one night or another. Highly recommended!
