This is one of those tools, when you start you think why should I pay an extra $$$ for something that does the same thing as the cheaper version? And that's great, because using a cheaper version of this Parker rasetta is just what you need for a beginner. I've been using it for about five years. My son is preparing to learn to shave and I want him to learn how to use a ruler so I decided to upgrade mine, let him use my old one and bought this one not expecting much of a difference . I was intrigued by the weight comments but didn't expect much of a difference. Wow. You won't appreciate the weight of this tool until you try the lighter version of it. it's like day and night. the feeling in the hands is much nicer. Not to sound weird, I'll say it's the difference between driving a Kia and driving a Corvette. Ride it the same way but wow not the same experience! An additional advantage is that the shaft no longer gets caught on the handle. It is a real professional instrument that you can feel in every inch. Again, in my experience, the lighter version is a lot better when you're first shaving straight because you want to "push" the blade - it's just a natural tendency when you start shaving. "handed" - this is an easier tool that sees through you. However, this tool is designed for lighter touches, allowing the blade to do the job that takes a while. Of course you could start with that, but you don't fully appreciate the difference in its higher quality. It's 5 stars.
