Revainrating 3 out of 5

Better than I expected, in many ways worse than some.

Better than I expected in many ways and ridiculously bad in a few others. Overall I'm very happy for the price but can't go beyond 3 stars due to imperfections. What's Good: Basic Features; Like the phone, the AM/FM radio is very fast and well integrated. I was expecting it to be quite slow because look at the price and with apps like YouTube or Apple Music it is. What surprised me is that basic functions like the phone dialer app and FM radio, basic settings are almost instantaneous. In addition, the start is much faster than I expected. The sound quality is pretty good considering my standard 1996 speakers. I can't tell how it would sound on more expensive speakers, but it sounds better than the stock system with what I have in a '96 Dodge Ram. If the agonizingly slow memory and CPU keep up, the video plays at a decent frame rate and doesn't feel choppy. The included GPS antenna works very well, which honestly surprised me. It looks pretty good on my dash and doesn't look like it's going to break in a week. I was expecting really cheap machine plastic but it seems sturdy enough. The bad: Look again at the price of each bad list. The color is pretty bad. It can only be a bad calibration, but the result is very cold, almost white looks blue. The resolution seems even worse than advertised, small text in things like maps is almost illegible and fuzzy. Speaking of maps, two map apps will be installed. The one that is suspiciously called "Navi" but behaves and looks exactly like Google Maps? I hope they don't steal too much of my information and give it to the Chinese government? It works fine, again like Google Maps on an Android phone, but VERY slow. I can't imagine using a ton of these except maybe for longer trips. Forget the other Maps app, which was indiscreetly removed when the display was flipped to portrait, making it very difficult to get out of, since things like the app switcher and home button are on the left edges of the display , with a very poor touch screen, it is very difficult to press. Tried downloading Waze but same issue with it being forced to portrait mode on a display that can't rotate. The touch screen is terrible. A lot of things require 2-3 clicks, especially around the edges. What's worse, because this thing is pretty slow and slow, you don't know when your clicks are always running, so you'll be clicking too often and choosing what you don't need. It has front and rear USB inputs, but the back doesn't provide enough voltage to charge my phone and the front charges it at around 1W. It takes a full day to charge the iPhone 12. Any chance of the screen mirroring the phone on the radio screen, forget they don't have those cheap Android head units hoping to do so. There was no external microphone in the kit, and if there is an internal one, Uber is bad, but it seems to me that my iPhone's microphone is used for calls? He didn't have time for confirmation and will have to settle for a cheap external microphone option. The good news is that there's a 3.5mm input in front of the deck, so it should be pretty easy. Summary: Don't buy it expecting it to be as fast as your $400 phone that came out 4 years ago. In terms of speed, it's more like the HTC Dream (Android G1) which is similar to 2008's technology. Buy it if you have reasonable expectations and want to spruce up an old car, with or without a cassette deck, on a budget and with surprisingly cool features.
