My dog has a short "double coat" and spends time off leash at the dog park every day, often wrestling and rolling with other dogs and around his in general minds own affairs. it's best to rub as much dirt and grime into their fur as possible. I've struggled to find a dog-friendly brush with stiff, closely spaced bristles and a reasonable handle design (seriously, what's the problem with making pet brushes with a wand handle that gets out of the way? This design is clearly optimized). for a person that combs their own hair) so instead I looked for horse brushes and bought these based on the reviews. The brush is ridiculously large for my 35 lb pup, but it works really well! It cleans their coat of dirt and grime very easily and also easily brushes the scales off their skin between baths. I have a small boar bristle brush that I use for her legs and face where the hair is much shorter and the stiff bristles of a horse brush are not needed. I also use the Furminator to trim it about once a week - this horse brush doesn't pull out the undercoat but is great for cleaning those the Furminator pulls up but doesn't grab. In any case, the brush is very pleasant to use and I really had no problem cleaning small areas on my dog, such as the chest and sides of the neck, with its tip. I have small hands and a small end of a good sized brush. I highly recommend it!
