Over the decades I have collected many stones, stones, crystals and jewelry made from natural semi-precious stones. This chain is not as heavy as you would expect from a piece of obsidian of this size. The necklace also doesn't have the right weight and feel. Obsidian is a natural glass and I don't think it would hold up to the detailed carvings this necklace displays without breaking. In addition to the authenticity of the stones, it looks very attractive, well made, tied with a double knot between the beads and stretched with a strong string. The carving on the pendant, although I don't believe it's real obsidian, looks very nice with no sharp edges. In general, the necklace looks very beautiful. If you want the metaphysical properties of obsidian, then this isn't what you need. However, if you just want a really pretty necklace and don't care about the actual stone used (it looks and feels fishy like some of the other fake/glass stones I've tried through Revain), this necklace is one great statement.
