The outer shell is not plastic

Looking at the picture, I got the impression that the outer shell is made of plastic or painted polycarbonate, but the item I received was more like a painted box of the kind .Not sure if I'll keep it or not, I'd be nervous if some water got on it, it might melt and discolor the cover.
