I prefer it to the Joby gooseneck for one main reason. The neck holding the camera can be adjusted and fixed. Joby is a ball and sock holding the camera. The connection wears out over time and some cameras aren't lightweight (I have a Sony RX 100 M2). So if I were to wrap the Joby around a vertical pole, you can imagine the camera's weight not being able to support a vertical shot. This will! I bought the same thing a few years ago and recently one of the lower legs fell off. I searched the internet for something similar and found mostly flexible ball joint tripods. I am very satisfied with this product!
