This is my first straight razor so I have no comparison. However, I've been using it for about 5 months now and I love it. Shaving becomes much more comfortable. Who doesn't like to play with very sharp knives? I don't know what type of abrasive comes with the belt, but I don't think you really need it. I already have cuts on my belt due to my irregular shape, but I don't know exactly how to fix it. The razor itself is now a little looser than I would like, meaning it opens out of the handle more easily than it originally did. I think that's how it should be, I just wish it was a little tighter. You also need to make sure you trim your hair properly before using it, otherwise you'll end up feeling like you're pulling your facial hair instead of shaving. And be careful, it's a razor and it doesn't hesitate to cut your face if you're not careful. This isn't the kind of razor you use when you're in a hurry.
