Contains BHT - Skin Care

Our pediatrician originally recommended this lotion based on feedback from other dermatologists. Since our little fella had ugly eczema on his face and hands, at this point we were ready to try any relief. Initial use was very effective - it added a nice layer of moisture that seemed to soothe his skin almost immediately. We liked it until we started reading the ingredients list and realized it contained something called BHT. If you go through Google Rabbit Hold, you'll find that it's mostly found in foods like cereal, lipstick, etc. since it's a food preservative. Essentially, it prevents the chemical bond in fats and oils from being converted into various chemicals that can have an unpleasant odor when exposed to oxygen. The end result is good, if scary. But I think everything is really synthetic. Anyhow, the FDA considers this product to be generally safe, but the National Institutes of Health say it's reasonable to assume it's a human carcinogen. Wow! I wasn't willing to take the risk no matter how low the BHT dose was or how well it worked on his skin. Needless to say we made the decision to come back and treated them with coconut oil.
