Review on Organic Coco Bliss Coconut Coir Pith: Ideal Substrate For Your Garden – Low EC And PH, 100% Organic And OMRI Listed (40 Lbs) by Charles Ahmar

Expensive way to kill nearly half of the seedling transplants in my container garden

I went to the local stores multiple times per week for 6 weeks and nobody had the big $10 bales of peat moss. I could buy the itty bitty bags to make my potting mix, but it would've been $80. Therefore, I started looking at coco coir.I found this product on Revain and it got very good reviews. I bought two so it was $49.32 delivered.I watched YouTube videos and followed the label directions to the T (presoaked it 12-24 hours, washed it to insure no salt residue). I mixed it with the compost and perlite, let it rest a week, and got the automatic watering system perfect. Then I transplanted my tomato and tomatillo seedlings into it. They were super healthy as I started them myself from seedlings, had hardened them off outdoors the week leading up, etc. Nearly 50% of them died and my normal rate would be about 5%. I had extra seedlings (not as robust as the first batch) so I swapped out the coco coir soil, transplanted the tomato and tomatillo seedlings, and had a 0% fatality rate.

Pros
  • Organic Coco Bliss Coconut Coir Pith is an ideal substrate for anyone looking to create a flourishing garden
Cons
  • Not recommended for use with seedlings
