I have a ceiling fan with light that the manufacturer has long since discontinued. A couple of sockets were broken so I decided to remount the lamp as I couldn't find another lamp I liked. After researching local and online options for replacement sockets, I settled on this one based on the price and the fact that the metal mounting plate has 2 attachment points to the ceramic instead of 1 (to make the socket less twisted). I was pleased to find that these sockets use Teflon wires which should withstand the heat better and be easier to thread through the device's cable channels as they are thinner than the standard PVC jacket. The wires themselves are still 18 AWG, just like my old outlets. The only thing that casts doubt is that the strands of the wire are silver, not copper. Another reviewer thought they might be aluminum but after doing some research concluded they were copper plated pewter. I suspect this is most likely the case since sockets *claim* to be UL listed. They are definitely not steel as they are not magnetic. Regardless, they have worked great in my device and I expect them to last much longer than the original sockets that came with the device. They also came with two sizes of steel tubing, nuts and washers, but I didn't need/use any of those for my application.
