Review on πŸ”Œ 1000 Watts Sharp R-21LCFS Medium Duty Commercial Microwave by Matthew Mosley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Budget advertising, but does the guarantee hold up?

I bought this for home use last fall. It works as reviewed. It defrosts perfectly and bakes evenly. I would like a regular meat dish, but I can live with that. It's only getting three stars because I'm concerned it might not last as long as one would expect from a Sharp commercial oven. When the door closes, there is a kind of sheet metal click that is not reassuring. The dial also does not light up, after which the cooking time and its start do not light up. It became necessary for the door to be opened and closed again to start the oven. Unfortunately, my concerns about the durability of this microwave have been confirmed. If it weren't for that, I'd upgrade my three stars to five in, say, another five years. I have used GE at home for the past 25 years. Although this oven is a Sharp commercial microwave oven, it has survived two and a half years of home use. The stove stopped with a crackling sound that we could hear two rooms down. We unplugged it, replaced the plug, and it was dead, dead, dead, not even the light came on. I have never owned a microwave in my life, either cheap or expensive, due to a Cavetron failure. It was Sharp's proprietary and vaunted magnetron that failed. Magnetron guarantee 2 years. Think about it: A Sharp commercial microwave advertised for use in hospital break rooms and other high-traffic areas soon broke down. An email notifying me of a link to a qualified service center. Why should I be angry when the most important and most expensive part is clearly supposed to fail in 2.5 years. This early death is shorter than the average lifespan of household microwave ovens. It is clear that Sharp no longer deserves the excellent reputation it has earned over the years. Instead, consider buying the cheapest, lowest-spec oven you can and consider it a commodity that needs to be replaced every two years. You will come forward.
