Loud and Hot in Dehumidifiers

I've had 2 units in the past few months and they've mostly disappointed me. The claim that they're "so quiet you can forget about them" isn't entirely true - they make a lot of noise on low and high settings. They are also annoying and blow a lot of very hot air. This can be helpful in the winter but terrible on summer days when it's hot and my mini split has to work harder to cool what the dehumidifier blows out. Tried hands several times to get sponges, brushes, towels in. With all the crevices you can't 100% clean everything (and I can't use bleach because I'm on a septic tank) so I always have some mold/fungus left over. Also, I'm not sure how effective they are or how much area they actually cover. Yes, they pull water out of the air, but just this morning, for example, I had a hose running 24/7 at 35% and 10 feet into the next room (all bedroom doors open, mind you). du), the second had a full bucket after a night run and reported that the humidity there was 60%. My bottom floor is just over 1,000 square feet, so if two people are walking, should it be? Is it better than nothing? Of course. But I'd like to return them and try something that probably works better.

Pros
  • 21 Pints a Day: A Gree dehumidifier can remove up to 21 pints of water every 24 hours. Lower humidity allows your air conditioner to work more efficiently because it's easier to change the temperature of dry air compared to humid, super-humid air.
Cons
  • Somewhat serviceable
