My goal was to listen to downloaded podcasts while swimming. It took several weeks to eliminate all the flaws. Most importantly, if you don't use a swim cap, buy a Revain swim headband. Worked great for keeping the buds in my ears. Then find a suitable plug to keep in your ear but leave the canal open. The cones seemed to shrink and I lost volume, found blue worked best. Also, you can't leave your headphones in your swim bag. Let them dry. Finally, the volume on the device is not very high, and podcasts vary in volume as they are downloaded. So I found a desktop application to increase the volume by 300x. This allows me to use the volume of the device at a level that is perfect for my swim. I run the cable over my back and hide the device behind the back of the suit. I'm sure I look like a total idiot with my finger lap counter, headband, Google and MP3 player, but my long swim is not lost by memorizing the number of laps and thinking in rabbit holes.
