It comes assembled right out of the box, so I set it up in the space right away -- it definitely feels sturdy and with its small size, I doubt there would be a time where it would be holding enough where its stability would be compromised. For perspective, I use it as a desk for my 13in laptop and there is plenty of room for using a mousepad. The tiny top shelf is nice to hold stationary, cases, and writing utensils as well.
