When I opened the package I was a bit surprised when I felt the mattress topper. It's supposed to be cotton, but it turned out to be closer to a plastic sleeve than I thought. The description states that it has an "extra mite barrier" that is 100% waterproof. I don't know about the extra thick part. The mattress cover is comfortable. It fits a queen size mattress with no problem. I like that the sheet has a generous span so that thicker mattresses can be used. This cover saved my mattress from a little water damage, which isn't serious but worked as advertised. Because cotton is easy to clean, I don't expect any problems washing the cover. This is a good mattress pad to protect your bed from spills. It doesn't increase comfort, but it protects your bed.
