I have two small dog breeds that eat very differently. You are picky and tend to be underweight. Others will eat almost anything and gain weight easily, even with the recommended amount of dog food. This is one of the few dog foods that will satisfy picky eaters, maintain a healthy weight and also not cause our other dog to gain weight. They have a beautiful coat, lots of energy and they digest food well. The bites of small breeds are very small. I had to buy large dog pellets from this brand when small breeds were selling out and my dogs didn't seem to be affected by the change. You just have to chew bigger pieces more. But I understand that smaller breeds have different nutritional balances to cater for smaller breeds. I'm not sure of the details but we choose small breeds when we can. When we switched food (when we had to buy from stores that didn't sell it) my dogs got fussy/obese again. (We pick a picky dog's food when we're not supervising, so our other dog's weight gain is entirely dependent on the food, not his eating our picky dog's food.) My dog's appetite seems to be within the recommended range with this food quantities to be breastfed . , and no weight loss or gain.
