I have to admit I'm a point and shoot guy who likes a small digital camera that I can carry in my jeans pocket which was always handy in my purse . I didn't want to spend tons of money on a camera and hundreds on additional lenses. My Casio camera serves me well on many occasions. I photograph a lot of people and take photos at parties and meetings. But there were always those moments when I was in a beautiful place and wanted something that would go well with photographs of mountains, lakes and other landscape features. Or I wanted to photograph our Christmas tree at night with lights in a dark room and just couldn't get the picture right. I've often wanted to photograph squirrels or woodpeckers in a tree, but with the 3x optical zoom you just can't get "close up". This camera can do all that and more. It also automatically snaps, points, and shoots, just like my little point-and-shoot camera. I hate reading manuals and guides. But with this camera you just have to take some time and read the small, clear manual that comes with it. It's fairly easy to read and well organized with links to page numbers describing each feature and cross references. Maybe someone with experience with other DSLRs or more sophisticated cameras will find this camera intuitive, but I had to do a bit of research before I could really go into all the features. After setting up the camera and trying out the different features and settings, it was easy enough, but there's a slight learning curve. The good news is that I can do a lot more things with this camera than I ever imagined. With other cameras I've had, I've been able to take close-ups of things like flowers or food. With this camera, I can photograph not only a flower, but also a bee on a flower and hair on its paws super macro! With other cameras, low-light photos were so-so. This camera allows you to take photos in very low light, which I've been using more and more since I've got a camera that can handle it. The 20x zoom is nothing short of amazing. This is great for photographing street animals or spying on your neighbor's gardener. It's almost like having binoculars and using them to shoot on digital film. You can record great movies with stereo sound. It's a lot easier than pulling out the camcorder every time you want to snap a quick video of a dog doing something cute or a neighbor's kid doing something silly. There are several special scene settings that you can use to quickly set up your camera for different types of photos. I've had very good results with them and look at all the different circumstances they cover: they have settings for portraits, landscapes, night scenes or shots, sports, indoors, sunsets, foliage, snow, beach, fireworks (I can do it can't wait to try it), Aquarium, ISO 3200, Color Accent and Color Substitute. The 2.5-inch foldable and rotatable LCD screen is a feature I love and haven't seen on any other camera in this class. This makes it easy to see what you're recording from any angle, which is nice since you can tilt it away from the sun. I find all the buttons, built-in flash and controls easy to use and can quickly reconfigure them for different situations. I like the stitching feature to create panoramas that I can later stitch together on my computer into one wide panorama. There are so many other tweaks and things you can do, it's just too many to list here. The camera definitely won't fit in my jeans pocket, but the weight and size aren't bad. I bought a bag/shoulder bag for Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi, PowerShot S5 IS, Powershot SX1 IS, SX10 IS which fits this camera perfectly. I am posting a short video showing the case and just some of the features of the camera. Too bad I couldn't use this camera to record videos. Close-ups would be much clearer than what I could do with my camcorder. I was thinking of including some camera photos in the video but the compression required to fit the video on this website wouldn't justify it. Even the photos posted by other reviewers on this site, amazing as they are, look even better when you view them on your computer or when you print them. I would use it enough to justify the cost. I shouldn't have waited. This is a wonderful camera that I will enjoy for a long time.
