Review on Maximize Efficiency with Camco Detachable Maintenance Excellent 41544 by Prince Fratto

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great toilet for the money. Excellent features + very good customer service.

I chose this Camco 41544 toilet because of 1) the shape of the holding tank and 2) the height of the seat and 3) the piston pump (rather than bellows or battery operated). 1) Many reviews of toilets with "square trash cans with push-in handles" have complained that solid debris tends to get stuck in the inside corners of the trash can. In a week of testing this toilet, I found that crap can stick to almost any surface if you don't use enough water. Lesson learned: Don't skimp on the water. Especially just before emptying the tank, I fill the bowl with clean water several times and then rinse it (LID DOWN).0) Lesson 0 (before Lesson 1). Only flush with the lid down. If there is enough water in the bowl to cover the sluice valve (aka flush valve), it will likely "burp" when you open the valve. After the first case, I did not experiment with different opening speeds of the gate (which can affect the increase). I just reduced the risk of splatters to zero by closing the lid first. This rule should apply to any lock/sliding hatch toilet. 2) The seat height of the 5.3 gallon model is approximately 1 inch less than our "regular" toilet (Home Depot Glacier Bay) at home. While I don't see the need to build a platform under the floor, I could buy/make a pallet to strap the toilet on during transport. 3) Piston flushing system. Water is sprayed into the bowl by lifting and (slowly) pressing the handle in the back corner (left side when looking at the front of the toilet bowl). The handle has a small rubber plunger attached to the bottom that pumps water on both the up and down strokes. This makes it easy to add as much water as you want to the bowl. And with very little effort. I have mild arthritis in both hands and using the pump does not cause any pain. When I first switched the toilet to "test" mode, I noticed that water was slowly seeping around the "screw cap" that holds the plunger assembly in place. . No squirts, but a few drops with each pump cycle. Enough that it started dripping onto the back of the toilet with every use. Instead of being stupid and sending the toilet back defective, I unscrewed the lid and removed the plunger assembly. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the large o-ring in the threaded cap had a slight crease. It probably didn't fit fully into the groove when you first installed it. So I emailed Camco about the problem. I never received a reply from Camco. Maybe the person with the happy face was on vacation. A package containing a replacement piston assembly arrived within a few days, so take care. In the end, the problem was quickly resolved. This detail has nothing to do with what brand of toilet you buy. This comes with two samples of Camco brand TST odor control pouches. They are very similar to dishwasher detergent capsules. I've already decided to try Simple Green (1/2 cup in fresh water tank before filling) so haven't bothered to use them yet. After a week of daily use there was no smell so I figured I'd found a cheap and eco-friendly way to control the odor of a portable toilet. And then I emptied the black water tank. The task of pouring it down the toilet in the bathroom made the bathroom smell like a ripe pit latrine (outhouse). That's how it's supposed to smell without the fancy chemicals, right? Next time I will use TST earbuds and will post an appropriate review on this product when I buy a pack of them.
