I bought this camera as a "field camera" for hiking, trail running, skiing, etc. when I don't feel like carrying our regular photography gear. He also accompanies me on deployments and field exercises in the army. As well as dropping it, I checked its movements and it continues to take quality photos. The stabilization function works well in daylight, but some shaking is noticeable on long exposures. Shots are sharp, telephoto shots are more than adequate and basic macro shots are possible with this camera. It's light and thin enough to be a truly portable camera that you can take anywhere. It is indeed waterproof and takes very good (but not great) underwater pictures. The photo quality exceeds my expectations for a point-and-click digital camera, capturing plenty of detail for unforgettable photos. For the price, I don't think there is a better camera on the market with these specs. The only downside to this camera is the battery. It doesn't last long enough and if you turn it backwards or upside down it gets stuck and almost impossible to remove (see other reviews and their own guide). It's just bad engineering/design; a simple change in the shape of the battery would prevent this deficiency.
