The insides of the velcro stick together well. This part is very safe. Unfortunately, tacky glue doesn't stick well and won't last long on every surface you stick to. I wanted to use this primarily for gluing battery powered lights for small dollar storage under kitchen cabinets. Before applying, I made sure that all surfaces were flat, smooth, clean, washed with alcohol and dried thoroughly. Once in place, I pressed and held the Velcro for a full minute before attaching a flashlight or other object. Nothing I've done made the adhesive last long. Everything I've used it for fell off in 24 hours or less. It would probably be fine for something lighter than 2 AA batteries (the ones in my flashlights) but that narrows down the list of things you could use this for a lot. I ended up spending a few bucks more for these 3M Command velcro straps that you can use to hang pictures etc and they do the same job well.
