I wanted to like it but it doesn't work

I wanted to love this scale but unfortunately it doesn't work the way it should. The scale will not connect to certain Wi-Fi networks and will not constantly sync your data with your Garmin Connect account. For this reason I am returning this scale. More information below: I am in the Garmin ecosystem. I have a Forerunner watch, Edge bike computer, cadence sensors, speed sensors and the Garmin Connect app. I like the quality of Garmin products. I like how they are designed for their users (for example, the Forerunner watches use buttons instead of a touchscreen because the touchscreen doesn't work with sweaty hands). They meet my needs and work consistently. I wanted to love this scale but it doesn't meet Garmin's quality standards for use. I wanted a scale that would track my body measurements and sync my data with Garmin Connect. I've looked at some third-party offerings like Withings, but found that most of the time I have to sync my data with one app and then process it through another app before I can transfer it to Garmin Connect, where the rest of my health and performance data is located is available. This is why the Garmin Index S2 made the most sense. It synced all my data to Garmin Connect and I was able to stay in the same app. When I opened the box I was very impressed with the build quality. The scale is pretty solid. In the box you get 4 batteries and some extra legs for using the scale on carpeted surfaces. I put the supplied batteries in the scale and put it into operation. Setting up the scales seems easy at first glance. You connect the scale to your phone via Garmin Connect and then continue with the setup process. You add a nickname for yourself (the scale can sync with up to 16 unique users) and then enter your WiFi details. The scale says it's online and you're good to go. Just. Or so I thought. I got on the scale and they gave me my weight. But instead of recognizing me as a user, which is the only user on the scale at the moment, it says I'm a guest. Well that's weird, why doesn't he recognize me? I'm looking for help on the Garmin forums. Although the scale has Bluetooth, it doesn't use Bluetooth to sync anything. It is only used for the initial setup. Instead, the scale uses WiFi to sync data. I've found that some users are also having issues with their Wi-Fi networks and that pairing with their phone as a hotspot works better. So I'm trying to add my phone's hotspot as a wifi network. The way you do it is a bit unintuitive. You press and hold 'Reset' on the bottom of the device, which doesn't actually reset the scale but returns the device to Bluetooth pairing mode. This mode allows you to add another Wi-Fi network to your device. Please note that in this case, your scale will show the status "WLAN setup incomplete" in the "Garmin Connect Devices" section. Now that my phone's hotspot is on, I try to weigh myself again. This time it recognizes me correctly and also provides data about my body composition (BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, etc.). But when I go to the Garmin Connect app on my phone, it still doesn't show up. The data simply does not want to be synchronized. I try a few more times until finally something shows up in my app. The synchronization seems really inconsistent. I synced it in a few minutes and it took several hours. The scale just won't sync over WiFi. The Garmin website is useless when it comes to troubleshooting. Is this a port problem? Does it need a reserved IP address? Do you need Wi-Fi 2.4GHz or 5GHz? Why doesn't the device work over bluetooth if it knows the user using it (and you can click to select other users if wrong)? The main function of this scale is to measure my body composition and weight and then sync it to Garmin Connect. This should work more reliably and comfortably than if I want to manually mark this data myself. But at the moment he doesn't. For this reason I am returning this scale. I am very disappointed in this scale. It's clear Garmin hasn't come out with a well thought out product.
