Cat-6a SSTP cable to Cat-5 patch cord later. I was able to insert a Cat 5 connector (cut through the cable's rubber band) and cut the yellow spacer to wrap around the cable behind the connector head. After installation, the disc was not visible. As for the connector, once the cable was plugged in, I was able to patch it without cutting the gasket. You can of course flip the connector to avoid using washers, but that's not necessary as I did. I now have a weatherproof external RJ-45 connector that few will bother with because it looks like a regular junction box, not a network wire. And it doesn't rely on a working Wi-Fi router. I'll check it out after winter to see if it needs to drill a drain hole to prevent condensation.
