I haven't had any leaking issues at all. I love straw too! You can't completely cover the hole with a straw or it will create a vacuum that will render the straw "unusable". The lid seals the straw and prevents the bottle from leaking and keeps the straw clean. It also comes with a handle that makes it easy to carry and balanced drinking. I don't plan on washing it in the dishwasher, it's easy enough to hand wash and I don't want to loosen up any details. I am very happy with my purchase. However, I will warn you. This is a two liter bottle. It's quite big, it took me a week to get used to the big water bottle.
