I don't recall, in the description, seeing that the base rotates, but it does. I was starting to spin the ball around to look for flaws, and the base spun around with it. It's on ball-bearings. The ball itself is flawless, as far as I can see. I took it out in the noonday-sun and almost instantly, the sunlight being focused through the quartz started warming my hand! I take that as a great sign. Very much well worth the money. If you're buying it for scrying purposes, you could do with one slightly smaller. I love the size, but a 4" one might've been better.
