The dog is adorable but smaller than I expected (no big deal as it's a Shih Tzu). I thought it would be just a soft plush dog that seemed to be sleeping and would make a great gift for my elderly mom who recently lost her beloved Shih Tzu. It has a soft fur but a hard plastic base and houses a 9 volt battery to give the impression that the dog is breathing. I couldn't find any instructions or buttons to turn it off until I gift wrapped it. I gave 3 stars as I didn't have to pay full price because I bought one that was returned and damaged in the packaging. I think the initial cost was high. Finally, DO NOT buy this for young children. I say that because I pet and care for it for my mother after she received it as a gift before going to the airport. As I was going through security, an ALARM went off as security guards rubbed their hand over me after I was searched. I was told I would be taken to a locked room where my luggage and I would have to be searched more thoroughly. I was told I had a substance on my hands that is used to make explosives! That being said, I wouldn't want it next to my young child or a child who is constantly putting things in their mouths. Another reason I hate things made in CHINA.
