As for me, when it comes to audio gear, I base over 90% of my rating on the sound quality, which all too often falls short of style, phone tricks and booming bass. I'm surprised and impressed by Edifier. It has an airy, expansive soundstage. There is great clarity and reach. The sound is precise and detailed. This is a neutral sound profile that can be ridiculously difficult to find. The headset is well thought out and comfortable. The strap is filled with the same material as the ear pads. They don't retain heat, another rare find. I live in Hawaii and have a small glass studio. If the temp is > 90 degrees and I'm sitting at 2000 degrees over the burner, next to the stove, it means a lot that they aren't holding heat. There is an application for setting different qualities, but you don't have to use it. This means you won't get stuck listening to music on your phone. I used Bose Silent Comfort headphones exactly once. I couldn't use them with my FIIO. They need access to my contact information etc. to work. The sound didn't bother me either. It would be unwise to compare it to the Sony XM1000. In truth there is little comparison but they are 1/5 cheaper. They are comparable to the Sony XM 700 and in my opinion significantly better than the Sony XM 500. They are more comfortable, have better build quality and better sound. Sony does a better job of noise-cancelling. This is probably the best comparison in terms of price and in my opinion the Edifier is the closest match to the Sony at a comparable price. The 700s have been my studio headphones so far, but they get pretty hot. I have my Jabra 45hs on the studio rotation and I think they will be added to my studio phones, possibly replacing Sony or Jabras. I am working.
