1. It must remain plugged in to work - it cannot be pre-charged2. You cannot operate the fan head without lighting it. If you want to use the fan at night in the dark, it's not possible because the base is illuminated3. When the humidifier is running it drips so every time I use part of the humidifier it creates a puddle of water - I resort to placing a paper towel underneath. Those issues aside, I think it's a good humidifier - the fan is powerful and cute. But I think I would buy another one for the price I paid.
