I bought this cap as a base for my 2017 Kentucky Derby cap. I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of the hat. I found the stitches firm and the straw well woven. I was also happy to see that there is a metal band in the brim that makes the hat stretchy but still flexible. On the other hand, the headband was tight even before I started shaping it. In the end I was glad I wore my hair nice and straight or it would never go away. To be fair, I have quite a large head for a woman so this is definitely not the first or last hat that fits snugly. Also, I had twice as much time to get the fold lines out of the hat. After lots of heat pressing, the creases were still visible, so I somewhat disagree with the foldable/packable claim. I am very happy with the end result and have received many compliments on the hat. If I make a hat next year I will definitely consider buying this hat again as a base. Here are photos of the hat in its final fit, note the scalloped brim. It's about as flat as I managed to squeeze the hat after four tries.
