Review on Redragon K512 Shiva RGB Backlit Membrane Gaming Keyboard with Multimedia Keys, Linear Mechanical-Feel Switch, 6 Additional Macro Keys, Dedicated Media Control, Removable Wrist Rest by Shannon Hanson

I love this keyboard!

I prefer a membrane keyboard but after a brief introduction to a mechanical keyboard I found that I can hit keys more accurately and type faster when using a mechanical keyboard. So I tried Redragon Yama, which I really liked but was too loud. I have migraines and ADHD, so the noise of a mechanical keyboard is not only distracting, it can also lead to a painful headache. This keyboard's sound deadening O-rings made no difference, and the switches couldn't be replaced without soldering. So I returned the Yama and bought this Shiva hoping the faux-mechanical style might be the perfect middle ground for me. I LOVE this keyboard! It's a bit like a mechanical keyboard in terms of the force required to press the keys and the haptic feedback when the keys resurface. But the keys are also soft and comfortable, which might not appeal to people who really like mechanical keyboards. The next switch that comes to mind is probably Cherry MX Reds. Maybe especially the breastfeeding ones? Of course, it's not as firm and fresh as Cherry Brown. By gentle actuation we can tell that this is a membrane, but for me this is a plus, not a disadvantage. Maybe one day I'll be a pro player who needs a quick click, but that's not today. Sonically, it's not the quietest keyboard I've ever used, but it comes very, very close. The sound of typing at full speed on this keyboard is like gentle rain outside a window. This is more pleasant than distracting. I can't hear it at all with noise canceling headphones. Nobody hears keystrokes in Discord. My husband's mechanical keyboard has Cherry Blue switches and everyone on Discord is complaining about the sound and Yama had a Cherry Browns equivalent and they could hear them too. However, there are no complaints about this keyboard. Some things I would have liked from this keyboard: Totally conflict-free keys. It's unlikely they'll ever make a completely conflict-free version of this keyboard, because if you want that feature, you probably want a mechanical one too. I'm in the minority. But man, that would make it almost perfect. And more customizable LEDs would be the only thing I would ask for. Most Redragon products don't have fully customizable LED situations, which doesn't bother me. But Yama had a light scene that I really liked: when you press a button, it lights up in a random color. I also like being able to customize the backlight of only certain keys like WASD, map key, etc. With a completely conflict-free keyboard, they can solve this attitude and make my day better. One day I'll go broke on a metal-framed keyboard. with raised Cherry Red Silent switches, but until then, this faux-mechanical keyboard is a budget alternative that I really like.
