This beach tent is light enough that it did not excessively add to the weight of my suitcase. More importantly, it fit easily into the suitcase. We were flying so could not take our own beach gear and shelter with us. We also needed protection from the sun.I read reviews of this before I bought it and was concerned about being able to get it folded back small enough to fit into its bag. Our experience is that that was not a problem. I made sure to press all the air out and fold it so that it laid out narrower than the length of an individual rod when the rods were folded up. I rolled the tent up around the rods. It fit back into the bag with no problem. The "sand bags" on each side were sufficient to hold it down while we were gone (we probably left shoes and books inside also adding weight) walking the beach. I didn't use the stakes because of the ground conditions, but didn't need them.Our experience was that if it was windy enough to need the stakes, it would have been next to impossible to set the tent up. Which leads to a piece of advice that we took from reviews that we read: practice at home. We only practiced once, indoors, but it gave us confidence in the tent but also showed us what we'd need to do to break it down in a manner that would fit in the bag. It also gave us a feel for the fragility of the rods and inner elastic, as well as how easily the fabric might tear if one forced the rods through. We took our time and had no trouble. Transported it to and from Mexico and it is undamaged and we are very happy with it.
