We have five children and my wife is pregnant with her sixth. To show our kids the gender we bought 3 of these sets and each kid hit one with a bat. Pink, then pink, then blue, then blue, then (our eldest hit the expanding ball). We shot a slow motion video and sent it to family and friends. It was a very fun discovery. Our youngest (5) hit the mark. She had to hit him three times to break him, but that was just for fun. The balls are strong enough to withstand "bumps" and not open up when hitting the ground after a miss. On impact, they explode in a powdery color. Don't force the children to dress ahead of time for church or anything nice (although the powder will wash off easily). You did a great job, it was a lot of fun and we are very grateful!
