Review on πŸ”Œ MAGNILINK Magnetic Charging Cable (Discovery 4-Pack+Tips): Fast Charging, Data Transfer - Universal USB Magnet Charger for All Devices by Dustin Gabrielle

No fast charging, but useful for in-car use

These cables proved to be just what I needed in my car as my kids have different charger needs (USB Micro, iPhone, USB-C) and I was looking for a quick way to charge my phone to my Android car connect to. Car use and charging. I have found that either the cable itself or the magnetic connector is not enough to charge my phone. I'm using a Pixel 3 that shows the charging speed status (slow charging, charging, fast charging) on the lock screen. When I first used it, I connected my phone to about 70% before a 35 minute ride. Using a regular cable will fully charge the phone in that time (this is a typical trip and I've used several different cables with the same results). When I got to my destination, my phone had a 68% battery level. This means that with Android Auto running and the phone screen off, it used a little more power than it was getting from the charger. A quick check of the lock screen showed that it was "charging slowly", indicating a 5W charge rate. The advertised magnetic function works very well. The adapters fit really well and snap into place, allowing you to quickly connect to your phone with one hand without looking. When you use them at home and in the car, you can plug in the adapter and leave it inside and use the magnetic ends to connect. any phone/device used. This is a great idea and the execution of this feature is excellent. In my case, however, I've found that while the ports work great, they just can't charge my phone quickly. At best I can say it says "Charging" which is about 12W when I play around with the connection. All in all it's a fantastic idea and I think it would work really well if it could deliver the full 18 watts.

Pros
  • Cables and Connections
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
