Big shaft. I actually went to B&H not long ago and looked at some of the sticks they had there and felt like I had a lot of them. Good balance between price and weight. The fact that you can route the cable down the middle is cool. However, if you want to connect an XLR to a bar, you will need to cut the wire and solder it after passing it through. Although it really shouldn't be a bad job. Even without running a cable up the bar (which I personally haven't done), the bar is great. Also durable. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the locks can come loose without your knowledge. Make sure you screw it on tight enough and check all parts of the bar before using it. Lightweight, non-bending, strong, inexpensive, the bar extension locking system is quick and easy, but a little tricky at times. Would recommend to anyone who needs a bar for less than $300.
