It was an impulse purchase at a reasonable price. I justified this by saying that the wear and tear on the Lightning connector has been eliminated. I have a plastic case, thin at the back, and there are no obvious problems with loading. My phone is 12 mini which doesn't charge as fast as other devices. This isn't a problem for me as I charge every night and typically only use 10-20% of battery capacity. I expect the power consumption from the mains to be slightly higher than from the plug-in. If every little watt-hour counts, I'd recommend doing a little research. I suggest it's more than a changing clock, less than a night light. My thermal imager shows it slightly over the area.
