Like most people, I bought it after a traffic accident (flat tire). I've done some research on the options and it turns out that technological innovations have evolved from traditional "fire" flares to orange reflective triangles and an LED FlareAlert distress beacon. I have found that this product is also being sold by police supply companies which has given me confidence. I also consulted with an emergency doctor and he thought this was the best option for consumers. The construction is very solid. I see this as true as it is break resistant up to 20,000 lbs. The LED is very bright and easily visible as a steady light or flashing pattern. Arguably the best aspect is that the base is also magnetic. This not only enables smart installation in the trunk, but also offers flexibility in case of storage (e.g. installation on the side of a car). About $12 each plus batteries, I keep one in every car. I would recommend spending a little more on batteries (Lithium AA) so you never have power issues.
